Muziektheater Transparant (Belgium) - Over de Bergen

Together with the Dutch composer and guitarist Corrie van Binsbergen, author and director Josse De Pauw has created an opera about the desire and lack that never go away. The main character, played by Josse De Pauw, is not so much a person as a ‘something’ which is bursting with desire.

Working alongside visual artist Michaël Borremans, he figures out what this ‘something’ should look like. It picks up faint sounds from somewhere over the mountains and is sucked in, propelled forward, turned upside down, blown away by this siren song... This opera sees the American soprano Claron McFadden, the jazz and pop sisters Beatrice & Vera van der Poel, the rhythm section of the successful band Corrie & de Grote Brokken and a number of phenomenal chameleon-like musicians such as reed players David Kweksilber, the Bulgarian percussionist Tatiana Koleva and harpist Miriam Overlach merge into a colourful leading figure.
“It flows, rumbles, thundert, curses, stuns, sticks, breaks loose, anoint, hurts and grasps" – De Morgen, May 2010
