Ramzi Choukair (Syrian Arab Republic)

Ramzi Choukair is a French Syrian actor and theatre director, who currently lives in Marseille, France. He studied Performing Arts in Damascus and Avignon, and obtained a Master’s degree in Performing Arts at the Paris VIII University. Since graduating he has held roles such as artistic and technical director of Damascus Opera House, technical director of Damascus Arab Capital of Culture Festival, and created the Mediterranean Arts Platform Al-Wasl. He worked as a specialist in Arabic contemporary theatre at Friche la Belle de Mai (Marseille) from 2011 till 2013.
As a director, he is known for Al-Zîr Sâlem and the Prince Hamlet and The Women Assembly. Choukair also works as an actor in Syria and France. He acted in plays such as Romeo and Juliet by André Serre, Les Epines by Manuel Gigi, The Seagull by Tatiana Arkhabitsova, Hiroshima mon amour by Julien Bouffier, and Chronicles of a City We Never Know by Mohamad Al Rashi and Wael Kadour. As an actor, he won the Helen Hayes Award for Best Actor in 2016.
