Robyn Orlin (South Africa)

In South Africa, in 1996, the abolition of apartheid became a new constitution that had to guarantee social and racial equality, but practice is different. Twenty years later, the country is still struggling with problems such as homophobia, gender inequality and a dislike for anyone who deviates from the mainstream. Orlin would not be Orlin if she did not resist against it, with firm criticism but with at least as much humor and grotesque comments. In her performances she has been protesting against apartheid, racism, the spread of AIDS and women's oppression for the past two decades.
