Yoshida Brothers (Japan)
Ryoichiro Yoshida and Kenichi Yoshida play the shamisen, the Japanese three-stringed lute, in an energetic and rhythmic performance that blends the traditional with the modern. Born and bred in Noboribetsu (Hokkaid?), they each picked up the shamisen at the tender age of five, and began learning the Tsugaru shamisen in 1990. This particular type of shamisen originated from Aomori Prefecture in the northern T?hoku region, and is played with a plectrum called bachi, while the strings are struck in a fast, percussive manner.
