Hiroaki Umeda (Japan) - 2. Repulsion & Holistic Strata

"Hiraoki Umeda's performances generate an intense visual experience, characterized by minimalistic subtlety and radical expression combined with technological manipulations of light and sound.
In his performance installation Holistic Strata, he translates physical data, generated from his own muscle movements, into computer bites live and in real time. This forms the basis for a dance solo. The alienating ensemble piece 2.repulsion, on the other hand, is pure dance. Three urban dancers show their physical tour de force. Hip-hop and modern butoh together in a stylized, empty space."
Technically 2.Repulsion isn't too complicated. Holistic Strata is: a 3 beamer video installation controlled by sensors on the dancer's body.
During the after talk in Julidans Hiroaki explained that he can never see Holistic Strata: a video camera never captures the 60 frames per second and the HD resolution of the video images used in the show. But his imagination tells him what it looks like.
