A bold dance-theatre production that features collaboration of European movements with Kathak's intricate and detailed theatrical gestures of abhinaya subverting imagery of Bollywood beauty and Hollywood glamour, which become objects for indiscriminate abuse and violence attacks on women.
A Thousand Faces is a project in partnership with Acid Survivors Trust International aiming to raise awareness of acid violence. Acid attacks against women are a worldwide phenomenon and are not restricted to any race, religion or region. Cases of attacks have not only taken place in the UK, but are also reported across South-East Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, the West Indies and the Middle East. These are the reported cases however numerous cases go unreported.
With little or no access to reconstructive surgery survivors are physically and emotionally scarred. In Pakistan, for example, many reported assailants, typically a husband or someone else close to the victim receive minimal to no punishment from the state.
