Bouchra Ouizguen (Morocco) - HA!
In her performance HA!, Bouchra Ouizguen examines madness in all its manifestations. To prepare for this performance, Ouizguen and the dancers spent several months in Moroccan neighbourhoods observing how people on the street behave; how they move and walk, how they drink coffee. They mainly observed ordinary people who pass you by on the street: normal, shabby, clumsy, drunk or inconspicuous passersby. Next, they translated their observations to the dance floor. The result is both humorous and melancholic.
On a stage without a decor we see female dancers (none of whom fits the standard image of a dancer's body) who seek out madness in themselves. Anyone who saw Madame Plaza in 2010 will instantly notice how much these women have grown as performers. Ouizguen's performance perfectly illustrates how she manages to make theatre about normal people by normal people.
