Akram Khan Company (United Kingdom) - iTMOi
The British-Bangladeshi choreographer Akram Khan comes to the Netherlands with a new work: iTMOi (in the mind of Igor). The Igor in the title refers to Igor Stravinsky. Akram Khan delves into the world of the famous Russian (ballet) composer and tries to find out how Stravinsky changed classical music. Stravinsky managed to evoke emotions in his music by playing with patterns and forms. According to Khan, all these patterns go back to a single image: that of a woman who dances herself to death.
Stravinsky is the guide, or map, for a voyage of discovery through Stravinsky's work. Khan undertook this journey together with three contemporary composers: Nitin Sawhney, Jocelyn Pook and Ben Frost.
