Dana Michel (Canada) - MIKE
Dana Michel's work is best described in terms of the influences she draws from for her work: she mixes intuitive improvisation, sculpture, hip-hop, comedy, film and social observations to create experiences that can throw you – as a viewer – considerably off your balance.
At an earlier edition of Julidans, Michel already made a great impression with her views on (repressed) cultural identity and sexual experience. In this edition, the Canadian artist poses in the three-hour continuous movement installation MIKE as a living sculpture, viewable from all sides.
The setting could not have been better chosen: in MIKE, Michel focuses on other ways of looking at others as well as yourself – and how you then behave towards each other.
