Akram Khan Company (United Kingdom) - Outwitting the Devil
When Khan, as a boy, saw Leonardo da Vinci's famous Last Supper, he was confused. What do you mean world famous? No one who looked like Akram, no correspondence with his faith or culture. Years later he discovered The First Supper by Susan Dorothea White. In this work of art the apostles are largely interpreted by women from all over the world. Inspired by that anti-colonial interpretation, Khan gives his thought-provoking vision of the conventions of the classical Indian dance world and the kathak in Outwitting the Devil.
