Dorothée Munyaneza / Cie Kadidi (Rwanda) - UNWANTED
The performance is an indictment of rape as a weapon in the war. Between April and July 1994, 100,000 to 250,000 women were raped in Rwanda alone. Munyaneza gives, possibly for the first time, the victims a voice on stage: the women, but also the unwanted children they had after the rape. Munyaneza made this performance based on interviews with victims. UNWANTED is not so much a dance performance as a performance with text, music, dance and images from the news.
