The anguishing story of Yerma in Federico Garcia Lorca’s savage yet lyrical play is interpreted to neo-classical Kathak featuring a woman who suffers the heart breaking social torment of a childless marriage that forces her to commit a horrific and an irrevocable act. Originally set in rural patriarchal and religiously repressive Spain, AKDC’s Yerma is reimagined for an inner-city British community, and performed to spectacular live music – tabla, cello & vocals.
