Sara Cano / Kalpana Raghuraman (Netherlands) - A Palo Seco / Rebel's Cross

In this double bill Sara Cano brings her creation A Palo Seco where flamenco, modern dance and Butoh come together under a penetrating original soundscape by the Spanish composer Héctor González and the voice of singer Alberto Funés. Cano's motto for this work is a quote from Kazuo Ohno, a Japanese dancer and one of the founders and inspirers of butoh: "Deepen, internalized from the depths of your self, your soul ''

In the second part Rebels' Cross Sara Cano dances alongside Indian dancers Sooraj Subramaniam, Kamala Devam in a choreography specially created for the Biennale by Kalpana Raghuraman. With the Indian classical dance form Bharata Natyam and flamenco as a starting point, the Dutch-Indian choreographer searches with her dancers for intersections in the dance, with music composed by Jaap van Keulen for this piece.
