Ryan Djojokarso / Korzo producties (Netherlands) - Giovanni's room
James Baldwin addressed important racial and sexual wrongs as one of the most important writers of the 20th century. Choreographer Ryan Djojokarso was inspired by his book Giovanni’s Room (1956), in which the American David falls passionately in love with the Italian Giovanni in Paris, despite being on the point of marrying Hella. We follow David on the night before the most terrible morning of his life, in which his beloved will be no more. A dance unfolds in which intimacy, masculine camaraderie, sexual tension and an all–consuming self–hate struggle for precedence. What happens to you if you are so afraid that you can no longer love?
