Michèle Anne de Mey (Belgium) - Neige
In 'Neige' by the Flemish choreographer Michèle Anne De Mey it snows constantly. Just like for here previous production Sinfonia Eroïca she used Beethoven's music: the Seventh Symphony. In a set that is both romantic and impressionistic dancers surrender for an hour and a half to the force of nature in a sequence of beautiful images.
Technically it's a challenge with 500 kg of snow, 300 l of water, 70 kg of dry ice, and the get out mainly means scooping away the snow.
Marijcke saw the show in Utrecht. Sometimes the dancers just drown in the set, and the show didn't have the dynamics and energy of Sinfonia Eroïca, but the images are stunning, with here and there a high 'how do they do that?' quality.
